In a true life Cinderella Story, Olajumoke Orisaguna went from hawking bread on the streets of Lagos to gracing billboards, beauty products and magazines. It was completely unplanned; she had no connections, and very little intention when she left her home that morning of becoming a beauty queen.

Her truly remarkable story has been told on various channels before now, but because there is never an overdose of inspiration, it seems like a good idea to once again draw some motivation from her, and from her amazing journey in life so far.

How Did Omo Oni Bread Become A Model?

Providence. She was just going about her daily routine of hawking bread around Olonode Street, Yaba, Lagos, around 9 to 10 am one morning. Completely unaware of the happenings in the foreground she photobombed a photo session of famous British Rapper Tinie Tempah, which was been shot by Nigerian photographer and singer, TY Bello, for This Day magazine.

After the photo session, TY Bello got to editing the pictures taken, and that was when she saw something in Olajumoke. Unknowingly, Olajumoke had posed perfectly with Tinie Tempah, and that convinced TY Bello that she could have a modeling career if she had someone to help her.

TY Bello then posted Olajumoke’s picture on instagram, asking people to help locate her. The search was successful, and Bello offered to help her get started as a model. She arranged for Olajumoke’s portrait to grace the cover of Style Magazine, and that was the push she needed- Olajumoke’s story spread like wildfire, and brands lined up to be associated with her.

BBC, CNN, and Wikipedia all have her story, and she got several presenting shows, as well as guest appearances on TV. She was assisted with her education, at least to help with her English, and also to learn Etiquette.

Olajumoke Oni Bread’s Back Story

Olajumoke Orisaguna was born in 1989 and she grew up in Ire, Osun State. She had some education but it was only basic; she did not finish her secondary education. Subsequently, Olajumoke Orisaguna trained as a hairdresser, so as to earn a living.

It was during her training as a hairdresser that she met Sunday Orisaguna; an artisan who fabricates and installs aluminum sliding doors and windows. The pair married in 2010, and has two children from the union.

However, Jumoke travelled to Lagos with one of her children to stay with relatives. It was there that she started selling bread by carrying in on her head from street to street; around the Yaba area of Lagos.

On one of those days, while doing her rounds, she unwittingly appeared on Tinie Tempahs’ photos as described above.

Olajumoke Orisaguna Today

Jumoke as she is affectionately called is now a celebrity model and social media influencer. She does product placements on her social media accounts, as well as comments on social issues.

She is also a runway model; she works with several established designers; showcasing their new patterns and designs, and posting them on social media.

Olajumoke Orisaguna Net Worth

Olajumoke Orisaguna is estimated to be worth around 16 to 19 million Naira. This money mostly comes from the fashion modeling work she does on a regular basis. It is also important to note that she has done product placements and endorsement deals with several brands like Payport, Stanbic IBTC, Shirley’s Confectionaries, Sujimoto Constructions, Divine Endocuments, and so on.

Olajumoke Orisaguna has been married to Sunday Orisaguna since 2010, and they have two children together. The family lived apart for sometime; Sunday remained at Ire, Osun State with one child, while Jumoke went to Lagos with one child to earn some money selling bread.

The family reunited in 2016 after Olajumoke Orisaguna became famous as a model. They live together now in an apartment furnished by Sujimoto Constructions.

Olajumoke Orisaguna is married to Sunday Orisaguna. As a celebrity model she is bound to get close to male colleagues, but any news about a boyfriend is likely to be a vicious rumor peddled to sully her image.

Olajumoke Orisaguna Controversy  

Jumoke’s husband Sunday Orisaguna granted an interview in which he said that Jumoke was no longer committed to their union, and that she was no longer respectful to him. He further said that she leaves home whenever she wants, and gets in very late in the night, without any explanation.

In a video Olajumoke Orisaguna said she was shocked at the idea of homosexuality; calling it “un-Nigerian.” She said that homosexuals in Nigeria would “be dealt with in ways you can’t imagine.” It appears she may have been tutored on the subject; she has not mentioned it since then.


Of course Providence played a big part in elevating Jumoke Orisaguna to stardom, but she took bold steps to better her life, and when the opportunity came, she grabbed it with both hands. Many people do not know that Oprah Winfrey has a similar story.
